Going beyond the simple observation of global climate change, the film follows four protagonists from Venice, Belgium, Miami, and the Marshall Islands, who are all confronted with the problem of rising sea levels. These men and women are looking for concrete solutions to avoid abandoning their lives, their homes, and their countries. To avoid becoming “climate migrants”, their challenge is played out on several levels: economic, human, cultural and technological. To survive, they must reinvent themselves and find a new ways of living with the ocean, which is rising irresistibly.

Dépassant le triste constat du changement climatique, le film propose de suivre le point de vue de 4 protagonistes, issu des quatre coins de la planète (Venise, Belgique, Miami et les Iles Marshall) qui se confrontent à la problématique de la montée des eaux. Ces hommes et femmes cherchent des solutions concrètes pour ne pas à abandonner leur vies et pays et ne pas devenir les « prochains migrants du climat ». Leur défi se joue à plusieurs niveaux : économique, humain, culturel, technologique… Pour survivre, ils doivent se réinventer et trouver de nouvelles manières de vivre avec la mer, qui s’élève irrésistiblement.

Der Film geht über die einfache Feststellung des weltweiten Klimawandels hinaus. Er begleitet vier Protagonisten aus Venedig, Belgien, Miami und den Marshallinseln, die mit der Problematik des steigenden Wassers konfrontiert sind. Diese Männer und Frauen suchen nach konkreten Lösungen, um ihr Leben, ihr Haus und ihr Land nicht aufzugeben. Um nicht zu «Klimamigranten» zu werden, sind sie auf mehreren Ebenen herausgefordert: wirtschaftlich, menschlich, kulturell und technologisch. Um zu überleben, müssen sie sich neu erfinden und neue Wege finden, mit dem unaufhaltsam steigenden Ozean zu leben.
