A history of the Earth through the eyes of the three generations of adventurers and scientists in the Piccard family (Auguste, Jean, Jeannette, Jacques and Bertrand). In 1932, Auguste became the first human to climb 16,200 meters in a balloon in order to gather (successful) evidence of the validity of Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity. Jean and Jeannette beat this record two years later (17,500 meters), Jeannette becoming the first woman to reach the stratosphere.
In 1960, Jacques Piccard became the first person to use a submarine to reach the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest place in the oceans (-11,000 meters), to check whether life exists in deep water. In 2009, Bertrand made the first non-stop flight around the world in a balloon, and in 2015-2016 the first round-the-world flight in a solar-powered aircraft (Solar Impulse). The Piccard’s have all tried to make humankind aware of the fragility of the Earth, its atmosphere and its oceans.

En 1960, Jacques Piccard est le premier à atteindre avec un sous-marin le fond de la fosse des Mariannes, l’endroit le plus profond des océans (-11’000 mètres) pour vérifier si la vie existe dans les eaux profondes. En 2009, Bertrand effectue le premier vol sans escale autour du globe avec un ballon, et en 2015-2016 le premier vol autour du globe avec un avion à énergie solaire (Solar Impulse). Les Piccard ont tous essayé de faire prendre conscience à l’Humanité de la fragilité de la Terre, de son atmosphère et de ses océans.
